Lasers are increasingly used in the workplace for a variety of applications such as material cutting, surgery, metrology, aesthetics, dermatology etc. However, this high-powered light technology can cause permanent injuries to users. In fact, Quebec companies that use lasers are responsible for training their employees in this area, thanks to the Occupational Health and Safety Act, Chapter III, Section II, Article 51.9.
Laser Safety Officer - Online Training
This 17.5-hour online course is designed for laboratory managers and supervisors.
The role of laser safety manager requires an understanding of the physics of laser beam propagation, an ability to assess risk, and knowledge of the best methods of protection for the context.
Our training enables laser safety managers to perform many tasks such as planning laser safety programs, implementing best practices, ordering personal protective equipment and performing laser safety calculations.
At the end of the training, participants will be equipped to deal with the responsibilities of a laser safety officer
Additional information:
The training is particularly aimed at safety managers of industrial and laboratory sites, researchers and occupational physicians.
- Explanation of how a laser works and the difference between coherent and incoherent light.
- Reminder of the principles of optics and radiometry.
- Description of the interaction mechanisms between light and biological tissues, as well as possible injuries caused by exposure to laser beams (eyes, skin) and related risks associated with lasers.
- Overview of the Canadian regulatory system and standards environment.
- Detailed study of laser use standards.
- Description of the laser classification system and the criteria leading to this classification.
- Explanation of protection methods (layout, protective equipment, safety policies and best practices).
- Examples of calculations covering several types of laser and various exposure situations for classification and choice of protective equipment.
- Case study of a laser installation.
- Computer or tablet.
- Internet access.
- Access to Microsoft teams.
- Notepad, pencil, etc.

Laser Security Awareness - Online Training
This 7-hour training course is designed for operators of Class 3B lasers and 4.
The fundamentals of laser safety will provide a good understanding of the health and safety issues associated with the use of laser equipment.
Participants will be able to handle lasers safely at the end of the training.
Additional information:
The training is intended for Class 3B and 4 laser operators, such as welding and cutting machine operators.
Laser Safety Awareness Training covers the following topics:
- Explication du fonctionnement d’un laser et de la différence entre la lumière cohérente et incohérente.
- Description des blessures possibles lors de l’exposition au faisceau laser (yeux, peau) ainsi que des risques connexes associés aux lasers.
- Description du système de classification des lasers et des critères menant à cette classification.
- Explication des méthodes de protection (aménagement, équipement de protection et bonnes pratiques).
- Computer or tablet.
- Internet access.
- Access to Microsoft teams.
- Notepad, pencil, etc.
- Scientific calculator.
