All the calcium salts that are deposited in industrial pipes risk damaging the equipment permanently and prematurely. These deposits notably reduce the efficiency of the pipes and, acting as thermal insulation, reduce the efficiency of the boilers. In industrial processes, it is necessary to monitor the formation of scale in the pipes in order to ensure adequate maintenance. The objective of this SEP project is twofold. First, to propose a hardware architecture based on optical sensors to detect scale in water pipes, and second, to demonstrate in the laboratory, with an experimental prototype, the feasibility of this approach.
