As natural gas is transported hundreds of kilometers by natural gas pipelines, the likelihood of leaks is high and it was, therefore, important to regularly check the status of the system. Aviatech Technical Services wanted to include the detection of natural gas leaks in its range of services. The objective of this project was to assess the feasibility of detection solutions for airborne surveys. Different technologies have been evaluated in terms of their sensitivity, their resolution, their ease of adaptation on an aircraft, and their cost. At the end of this project, Aviatech was able to make an informed decision on the advisability of acquiring such a detection system.
