Montréal, October 31, 2016 – Free Lecture on the Higgs Boson

Cégep André-Laurendeau and Optech are offering a free public lecture on the Higgs boson. The talk will be presented by Pauline Gagnon, a researcher at the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN) for over 17 years and named one of La Presse’s “Personalities of the Year” in 2012.

The lecture will take place at the Cégep on November 10, 2016, at 1:30 p.m. in room 1.246 (entrance door #4).

The discovery of the Higgs boson represents one of the greatest advances in scientific research on matter, as it explains how fundamental particles acquire mass. In 2012, its existence was confirmed with the help of a particle accelerator. The following year, Peter Englert and Peter Higgs were awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics for this discovery.

Cégep André-Laurendeau offers specialized physics programs, including the Physical Engineering Technology program, which covers a wide range of scientific disciplines such as optics and photonics, nanotechnology, programming, mechanics, and electronics.
