Meet Maroun Massabki, the New Executive Director of Optech

At the end of December, Denis Lafrance, Executive Director of Optech, will retire after 16 successful years leading the Montréal Center for Physics and Photonics Technology. He will be succeeded by his Deputy Director, Maroun Massabki, who will officially take over as the new Executive Director in January 2022.

Thanks to an exceptional and inspiring team, we will pursue our growth with the same level of excellence and passion for which we are recognized said Mr. Maroun Massabki.

Maroun Massabki has built his entire career in optics and photonics. With over 25 years of experience in the academic, public, and private sectors, Mr. Massabki has held several positions before joining Optech, including:

  • Director of Engineering at Optis Canada
  • Project Manager at Imagerie XYZ
  • Optical Engineer in Telecommunications at Vipswitch
  • Research Officer at the National Research Council of Canada

In 2010, he joined Optech, taking on responsibilities as Director of Development and Innovation and later as Deputy Executive Director. A graduate in Engineering Physics from Polytechnique Montréal, he is an active member of several engineering organizations and societies. Since joining Optech, he has structured over 600 technology development projects with hundreds of partner companies.

Mr. Massabki is recognized as an expert in managing research teams and advancing business development in research and development services.
