A CCTT is a Bold Gamble

Through applied research, we aim to weave together a space for sharing, knowledge, teaching, technological innovation, and economic development. Speaking with one voice, the members of the Board of Directors wish to celebrate the success that Optech has achieved in all these areas.

We take pride in the innovations that have emerged from the center: cutting-edge medical probes that help diagnose and treat patients, industrial process controls, monitoring instruments for structures, aircraft, and turbines, as well as pollutant detection systems.

We are equally proud of the synergies born from these research projects — between our three educational institutions, our SMEs, our teachers, and our multidisciplinary team of motivated and creative researchers and technicians. These synergies energize the innovation ecosystem, strengthen our regions and training programs, and ultimately make our society more resilient.

Above all, we are proud that these research activities allow young researchers and technologists to find their paths, strengthening the pool of highly skilled workers we so urgently need to meet the challenges ahead.

Optech’s 2020–2025 Strategic Plan

Today, Optech unveils an ambitious 2020–2025 Strategic Plan. The COVID-19 crisis, by dealing heavy blows to our institutions and economy, has highlighted Québec’s loss of critical self-sufficiency. The production of medical instruments and food security has suddenly emerged as strategic priorities. Equally strategic is the sustainable management of our ecosystems to adequately address climate change.

Optech’s researchers are already playing a catalyst role with SMEs in these sectors and are contributing to tackling these urgent and monumental challenges.

Acknowledgments

This announcement is also an opportunity to thank the various institutions that support our efforts. We particularly acknowledge the contributions of:

  • The Government of Québec
  • The Ministry of Education and Higher Education
  • The Ministry of Economy and Innovation
  • The Government of Canada
  • The Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC)
  • Canada Economic Development
  • The Canada Foundation for Innovation

The Board is pleased with these ambitious collaborations. Through Optech, these organizations help foster the rise of outstanding students, empower local entrepreneurs, and encourage our researchers, students, and teachers to envision the Québec of tomorrow.
