Kemira manages several projects related to the handling of residual materials produced by steel mills. These residual materials must be drained from tanks and treated according to the exact composition and density of the collected product. Currently, the determination of the product’s composition and density is carried out by the truck drivers who collect the residual material. This process is not only inaccurate but also results in inefficient transport logistics. Indeed, the product is often delivered to a facility that cannot process it, leading to multiple unnecessary transport movements.
The objective of the SEP project is twofold. First, to propose a hardware architecture to determine the composition and density of the product in situ (within the tanks), and second, to map the current logistics chain. These two objectives will make it possible to calculate the return on investment of an integrated strategy (measurement and logistics) for the management of residual materials from steel mills.
