The project led to the development of an innovative chemical sensor for chlorine detection based on the fluorescence of lucigenin. The electronic system developed enables the modulation of a laser diode to measure fluorescence in two different states, demonstrating the versatility of the approach. The results are promising, with a fluorescence lifetime variation sufficient to quantify chlorine. The use of specialized optical couplers from Castor Optics to deliver and collect light is another key strength of the system, offering promising opportunities for fiber-optic chemical sensing applications. Finally, the project identified potential improvements to further enhance measurement accuracy by accounting for environmental factors.
