Optina Diagnostics

Optina Diagnostics is a company specialized in the development of hyperspectral ocular imaging systems for diagnosing retina-related diseases. Optech contributed to the optimization of their innovative technologies through simulations, assemblies, and tests of various configurations.

Optina Diagnostics develops hyperspectral cameras capable of rapidly capturing and processing the light reflected from the back of the eye. From a sequence of retinal images, professionals can non-invasively diagnose and prevent vision-threatening diseases such as age-related macular degeneration (AMD), diabetic retinopathy (DR), glaucoma, and other neurological pathologies.

“The project was a true collaboration in which both teams worked together to find the right solution. Access to the expertise of the Optech team, as well as to their equipment and laboratories, was a considerable advantage in accelerating our development.”
– Jean-Philippe Sylvestre, Vice President of R&D, Optina Diagnostics

With the support of an Applied Research and Development (ARD) grant obtained in 2014 by Cégep André-Laurendeau, Optech carried out optical software simulations of the different solutions proposed by Optina in order to identify the most efficient configuration. Optech then designed and assembled an improved optomechanical system for the retinal camera, enabling more precise images of the back of the eye. These images later allowed Optina to develop biomarker detection algorithms using machine learning.
