The project enabled the development of a prototype micro biometric imaging system for fingerprint reading. The device consists of a micro-camera that observes, through a prism acting as a light guide, the fingerprint of a finger illuminated by micro light-emitting diodes (micro-LEDs). The obtained image is then analyzed to validate its quality. The prism was manufactured using our diamond-head lathe, as well as an artificial fingerprint created through a micro-molding process. The control electronics for two high-power infrared-emitting LEDs used to illuminate the fingerprint were also developed. Finally, image analysis tools were implemented thanks to this setup.
